
Make sure you properly address you repair request and make a copy for your records.
When you rent a housing unit, your landlord (owner or property manager) is responsible for making repairs to things that break in the unit. Everything supplied with the unit must work properly. If anything does not work properly, you must notify the landlord immediately.
You should make the repair request in writing and keep a copy for your records. The landlord is not responsible for repairs until you tell him or her about the problem. The landlord has a reasonable amount of time to make a repair unless it is an emergency, such as a broken heater in the winter.
Be sure to keep a record of when you contacted the landlord as well as copies of any written requests you send to the landlord. Follow up with a phone call after you make a written request. A written record may be helpful in case you have a dispute with your landlord.
