Renters' Rights for People Living with Disabilities

Renter's Rights for People Living with Disabilities

If you or a member of your household has a physical disability that makes it impossible or very difficult for you to live in your rental unit, you may modify the unit. However, you must first tell the landlord that you are doing so, and you must promise to undo any modifications after you move out (unless the landlord tells you not to).

If you need more information on your rights or wish to make a complaint about the landlord’s actions, please contact the North Carolina Human Relations Commission at (919) 807-4420.
