SERA, Inc. is a nonprofit serving the community of Southeast Raleigh. It works to build the quality of life in Southeast Raleigh through a range of programs.

  • N.O.W. (Negotiating Our Way) Advocacy Program
Assists Southeast Raleigh residents in finding resources to address their issues, problems or questions. Offers assistance in finding services that help residents navigate through any situation that they might benefit from an advocate's assistance - from negotiating with creditors, finding affordable housing, to securing public services of all kind including finding a healthcare provider and referrals for victims of crime.

  • “Jewels and Gems” Internship, Mentoring and Job Placement
Provides opportunities for youth ages 14-19 to intern with major Raleigh businesses. Provides job placement advocates to mentor youth through the challenges of working.
Open to high school students (ages 16-19), with no criminal background history, GPA no less than a “C” average and a desire for leadership and learning.

  • “Using Our Voice” Public Policy and Community Engagement
Teaches residents of Southeast Raleigh to recognize their power to create a more just, prosperous, safe and economically strong community by peacefully influencing public policy and engaging city, state, and federal government representatives and legislators.

  • Southeast Raleigh Voices Problem-Solving Collaborative
Meets to identify issues that concern the community, create strategies to confront the issues, recruit and develop allies across the community, evaluate barriers to success and determine support needed for success.

  • “Stepping Into Self” Entrepreneurial and Empowerment Project for Women
Serves women who are unemployed or underemployed and feeling the burden of poverty, marginalization and isolation. Offers information, outreach, education, self-advocacy, mind/body/spirit awareness, peer and mentorship support, and more.

  • Southeast Raleigh Community Dispute Resolution Center (CDRC)
Facilities a problem-solving (mediation) process in a safe space where citizens can learn to resolve conflicts on their own with a trained third-party facilitator.
Offers mediation training for Southeast Raleigh residents.

  • Court and Community Mediation Program
Provides mediation services in minor criminal matters. Develops written agreements that save time and stress and help the parties understand the interests that brought them together in the first place.

  • Social Justice Video Book Club
Provides an opportunity for Southeast Raleigh residents to join together to view and discuss films that have a social justice orientation.

  • Entrepreneurial Youth Technology Institute
Provides one-week Entrepreneurial Institute training for young people ages 13-17 to learn how to become webmasters, start a business and become youth leaders.
