The Raleigh Promise

Going to College in Raleigh
To qualify for a good job, you usually have to continue your education after high school. The Raleigh Promise offers programs to help young people ages 16 to 26 further their education after they receive a high school diploma or GED.

These programs are free and open to residents of Raleigh.

  • Raleigh Future Scholars
This program assists low-income high school students through academic coaching, workplace internships, SAT preparation, financial literacy and eventual transition to college.

  • Raleigh Fellows
This program supports low-income students through their college years and into employment. Raleigh Fellows receive orientation, mentoring, advice, internships, job search services and related assistance as they attend college and make the transition to the workplace.

To qualify for Raleigh Fellows, you must be eligible for the Pell Grant program. You can find out if you are eligible for the Pell Grant program by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

This program offers convenient locations in Raleigh where young people and their parents can receive information and get assistance in planning and applying for college.

The Raleigh Promise was developed by the Raleigh Colleges and Community Collaborative. Members of the Collaborative include N.C. State University, Meredith College, William Peace University, Shaw University, St. Augustine’s College, Wake Technical Community College, Wake County Public School System, philanthropic and civic organizations, the City of Raleigh, Wake County government, community-based and grassroots organizations, private businesses, neighborhood leaders, and parents.

Through the Raleigh Promise, members of the Collaborative pledge to help low-income youth further their education so they can get good jobs and support themselves and their families.
