Does Your Child Need a Tutor?

There are several reasons parents seek the help of a tutor. Some students need help mastering basic skills. Other students have problems staying organized and completing their school work on time. Others have learning disabilities. Some students want extra support to help them get ahead in school. Here are some signs that your child may need a tutor.

  • Shows on-going frustration about how well he is doing academically.
  • Sees a slow decline in grades in all subjects or in a particular subject.
  • Tries very hard but does not show improvement.
  • Loses interest and rebels against school work.
  • Is not engaged in school work or finds school too easy.

Before looking for a tutor, have a conversation with your child’s teacher. Ask how your child is doing in school and identify strengths and weaknesses. Your child's teacher will be able to help you determine what type of tutoring your child needs and in what areas.

Tutors can help students better learn subjects in school. They also can help them learn how to focus and spend time efficiently on homework. Tutoring also often helps children improve their self-esteem about their ability to learn. The more confident children feel, the more likely they will be to apply themselves in school.
