Four Reasons to Consider an After School Program

A checklist
  1. Your child will be less likely to get into trouble. Twenty nine percent of all juvenile offenses occur between 2 pm and 8 pm. The number of violent crimes committed doubles in the hours after school is over. Teens not in programs are more likely to experiment with drugs, sexual activity and gangs. If your child is doing something enjoyable and enriching, he or she is more likely to stay out of trouble.
  2. Your child will be more likely to do well in school. Studies have shown that students who attend after school programs do better on standardized tests and are less likely to drop out of high school. These students are also more likely to have better school attendance and develop stronger study habits.
  3. Your child will be more likely to do well outside of school. Studies have shown that these students are more likely to handle conflicts better, interact with adults more effectively and have better social skills.
  4. Your child will have fun. Programs come in all sorts of sizes and shapes. Check out After School Alliance.  This site highlights projects that youth have created in after school programs.
