First Time User Steps:
- Plan your trip with the help of the Trip Planner. Put in your starting point, destination and plan of travel. The Trip Planner will produce options for your route.
- Once you know what bus to take, go to the bus stop for that particular bus that is closest to your starting point.
- Arrive at your stop five to ten minutes early. Wait on the sidewalk where the operator can see you.
- As the bus approaches, check the sign above the front window to make sure it’s the route and destination you want. If they are, signal the operator that you wish to board.
- Be ready with exact change or a valid pass or transfer. You can buy a regional pass online.
- Stay back from the curb and wait until the bus comes to a complete stop. Then get on the bus at the front door and pay your fare.
- How to pay the fare:
- Using a Pass or transfer
- Transfers, stored ride passes (for example, 10-ride pass), and stored value passes (for example, $25 passes) should be inserted into the slot on the upper left side of the fare box with the arrow pointing down.
- Day passes, monthly passes, and GoPasses should be swiped like a credit card through the fare card slot on the top right corner of the fare box.
- Paying Cash
- Drop coins in the cup on the fare box. Feed flat, unfolded bills into the bill slot (the box that resembles a vending machine).
- If you need a day pass or a transfer, tell the bus operator as you enter and pay. Your day pass or transfer will be automatically dispensed if you requested one.

- Most buses are equipped with automated announcements of major stops and intersections; otherwise, the bus operator makes the announcements. If you are not familiar with the area, you can ask the operator to call out your destination when you board.
- When you want to get off, push the black or yellow plastic strip above your head or next to the windows to request next stop.
- Gather all personal items and exit through the rear door.
For Your Safety
- When riding at night or early in the morning, wear light-colored clothing and carry a reflector or flashlight so the operator can see you.
- Never cross in front of a bus unless it is stopped at a red light.
- To report an emergency or suspicious package or behavior, tell the operator right away or call 9-1-1.
- All Triangle bus systems are ADA accessible. Both seniors and individuals with disabilities are entitled to discounted rates. Read more.
- If you have a disability that prevents you from using the fixed-route buses, you may be eligible for ADA complimentary paratransit service. Learn more about paratransit service.
